June Shabbaton
June 6 @ 6:30 pm - June 7 @ 8:30 pm

We’ll celebrate the OJC’s final Shabbaton of the season with the charming Rabbi Matt Leibl! Once a radio sportscaster, he has served as a pulpit rabbi and a popular “free-agent” community rabbi in his hometown of Winnipeg. He now works full-time as a dad and part-time as the spiritual leader of that city’s Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre.
Join us for an outdoor Friday evening service overlooking the sunset and the lake at the Bertram Creek Park amphitheatre. Rabbi Matt’s dynamic and musical Kabbalat Shabbat will ring through the trees. Saturday morning, we’ll be back in the shul for a moving Torah service and luncheon.
After the service, we’ll be joined by Rochelle Garfinkel, Coordinator of the Antisemitism Legal Helpline for the Access Pro Bono Society of BC, the hosts of our Kiddush luncheon. Rochelle will give a short presentation about the legal resources and protections available to address and combat incidents of antisemitism in our community. This event will be especially interesting to any Okanagan legal professionals interested in volunteering with this important organization!
FRIDAY, June 6
AT BERTRAM CREEK PARK AMPHITHEATRE (Follow this link for directions)
Please check the website at 5 pm on Friday, in case Mother Nature changes our plans! In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at the OJC sanctuary.
6:30 pm – Lakeside Shabbat service. This is not a beach blanket service! The amphitheater is paved and has built-in bench seating. You may prefer to bring a soft cushion.
PLEASE NOTE: There will not be a community Oneg dinner this evening. However, we encourage you to bring your own picnic to enjoy on the beach or in the park!
