Several Jewish weddings have taken place in the Okanagan. These have been officiated by either Rabbi or a lay-leader. These may be private or community events according to the wishes of the couple.
Specific traditions, such as writing of a ketubah (marriage contract), marriage under a “chuppah” (wedding canopy) and the traditional breaking of the glass, are all essential elements of the service. Many other traditions can be discussed with the officiant.
A Rabbi and possibly a lay-leader would be able to fulfil the requirements for the civil union under provincial jurisdiction besides being able to officiate from a religious point-of-view and sign the ketubah.
