OJC Film Festival – Movie #4 – YERUSALEM – The Incredible Story of Ethiopian Jewry

OJC is pleased to announce that the screening of this fascinating new documentary “Yerusalem, The Incredible Story of Ethiopian Jewry” will be showing at OJC Film Festival on Saturday evening, May 7th at 7 pm. The film is being sponsored by JNF Canada and will be introduced by Mr. Michael Sachs, JNF representative in Vancouver. The film is 90 minutes and is extremely comprehensive showing the original community in Ethiopia, their “exodus” from Ethiopia to Yerusalem (Amharic for Jerusalem), and their settling into Israeli life. There is discussion of some of the problems involved with their adaptation to Israeli society and their current, at times, difficult process of being recognized.

For 2500 years, the Jews of Ethiopia believed that they were the last Jews on Earth. Deeply connected to their faith, Yerusalem brings to life the long, dramatic and tumultuous journey of this community as they finally find their way back to the heart of the Jewish people, Jerusalem.
